So I finally, FINALLY made beer today. I'm a very very lazy girl, so when the urge to do anything substantive hits me, I just gotta grab hold and hope the feeling doesn't waste away. Which it did, but I was committed by midpoint. Anyway, it was a recipe that I sort of made up; I took the Homebrew Favorites book and took two recipes, the Christmas Cheer Ale and Gingerbread Beer, and smushed them together. Among the ingredients: molasses, honey, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Lots and lots and lots of cloves.

I think too many cloves, as the place smelled like clove cigarettes. Which isn't a bad smell, I'm just not sure I want my beer saturated with that flavor... so we'll see. I still have the stuff to make a Chocolate Cherry Porter, which I think I'll twist around and take the cherry part out and add cinnamon. So it'll be a chocolate cinnamon porter. Mmmmm... tasty!

I know I said it on the Alley Party site, but Jay and I have purchased a house! Almost. The whole mortgage/money thing has to go through, but we have the offer accepted, the inspection complete, and the purchase and sale will be this Friday. The closing date will be December 17th as of now. So for an update...

Leigh Street, Framingham... went for about $25,000 more than it was asking!

Moulton Road, Southboro... the guy wouldn't negotiate another $1,500!

Carlton Road, Holliston... went for about $20,000 more than it was asking!

Chestnut Street, Ashland... aka "60s Party Palace"... massive foundation issues, so we decided not to offer any money!

and here it is... THE HOUSE!

8 Indian Spring Road, Ashland, Massachusetts

Right by the Ashland State Park, the Ashland Community Center, the Tasty Treat ice cream/mini golf place, and the Corner Pub!

The Aurora Borealis (aka the Northern Lights) are supposed to be appearing in the northern area tonight; I don't know if Massachusetts is included in that? I hope so! I don't know how much we'd necessarily see in Lowell, though. I'll probably go outside and see red flashes and streaks in the night sky... then realize I also hear sirens, and I'll realize it's just the lights from cop cars reflecting off of the second-hand crack smoke in the air. Ah, Lowell!

So go to www.alleyparty.com for an update of our home-buying adventures... I'll post the obligatory houses we lost with red Xs, along with our future home with NO red X!
